Replacing a single garage door (about 2.4 m wide) with a Colorbond steel roller door and motor typically costs $2,300 installed, with most quotes between $1,800 and $2,950 including GST. That includes removing and disposing of the old door, the new roller door with guides and weather seals, and a motor with two remotes. What affects the cost
Roller or sectional
Roller doors are the most common and cheapest option and roll up into a drum above the opening. Sectional doors are stronger, quieter, seal better and can be insulated, but cost more and need ceiling space for the tracks.
Single or double
A double door costs considerably more than a single but less than two singles. Most new homes have a double garage.
Motor
Most new doors are sold with a motor. Sectional door openers cost a little more than roller door openers.
Finish and insulation
Standard Colorbond colours are cheapest. Timber-look panels, insulated panels and custom colours add cost; insulation helps if the garage is used as a gym, workshop or living space.
Cyclone and wind rating
In cyclone regions, doors need a wind rating and heavier bracing, which costs more than a standard door.
Opening and power
Our figures assume a standard opening with a power point near the door. New framing, a larger opening or running power adds cost.
